About the Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy

The Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy at the UGA Summer Music Camp is designed to develop strong skills for music leadership by emphasizing Community Impact, Social-Emotional Growth, Self-Awareness, and Civic Engagement.  During the week students will participate in a curriculum that will focus on the leadership skills listed above as well as ensemble rehearsals, instrument specific masterclasses, and applied study. Accepted applicants will attend the 2026 UGA Summer Music Camp as Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy Scholars with a full scholarship from the Gretsch Foundation. 

The Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy open to 50 rising 10th - 12th grade students (
guitar, bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic, band, orchestra, and piano) from the state of Georgia. Applicants will submit a registration application, audition, and a teacher reference form. Students from rural school districts and counties will be given priority. A list of rural school districts and counties in Georgia can be found here.

A completed application consists of the following items and must be submitted by April 8, 2026:
  • Registration Application 
  • Audition Submission (submit below or through the registration application)
  • Teacher Reference Form (reference will receive the form link from our office)

Application Details

The student application includes basic information including name, school, instrument, and contact info. Additionally, the application includes a short questionnaire to be filled out by the student.

 Audition Details & Requirements

The audition recording should submitted as an unlisted YouTube video as part of the student's application form or by using the Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy audition submission form. Instructions on how to create an unlisted video can be found here. 

Audition Requirements:  All students should submit an audition that demonstrates their playing ability and interests. This can include the typical audition requirements used by GMEA (scales & etudes), solo works for your instrument, compositions written and performed by the applicant, or a combination of the above.

Teacher Recommendation

All applicants will submit the name and contact information for a reference of their choice. The recommendation form will be emailed to that reference following receipt of the student's application. Please make sure to submit accurate contact information to ensure that the reference receives the recommendation form.

Tuition & Fees

All tuition and fees for the Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy will be covered by Gretsch Foundation. This includes housing, food, and all instruction (Classes, Rehearsals, Masterclasses, and Private Lesson) for the week.

Below is a brief outline of the schedule Gretsch Musician Leadership Academy at the UGA Summer Music Camp. The outline illustrates the class periods particularly for the band, orchestra, and chorus students. Pianists and guitarists will follow a similar class schedule, but will have classes instead of large ensemble rehearsals.
